Thanks! They ended up being pretty time and patience consuming to make and get the finishing up to a level I was happy with, but I’m really pleased with the end result now I have them up and installed.
Hmmm will have a think about that when I get round to making some more up… Would have to look into a different way to secure them, as this set was a little fragile when it came to actually installing them.
Playing around with the idea of working them into a piece for one of the BSG shows, though I’m not sure if they’re doing hard rubbish this year or not.
That is, If I can actually make myself write a proposal – I hate that bit!

I want to know, how did you make them, did you cut the vinyl using something hot? like a cutter or something… And the movement you made them, you get it with something warmed up?
So I cut these all by hand… Actually with scissors – I think I blunted about three pairs in the process!
I then finished the detailing with a dremel, and sanded them all by hand (so not something I love – Probably the main reason I have never got around to making more!)
I did a whole lot of research into cutting vinyl records before I made these – See, there are big problems with laser cutting because of all the carcinogens it releases which are really corrosive and toxic.
I found you can cut them with a rotary saw, but they’re reasonably brittle, and as I don’t actually have one and had a limited time frame I didn’t want to find somewhere to do them for me (plus I kinda wanted to do every part of them myself)
Because of the carcinogen thing when you heat vinyl I wanted to steer clear of this, so the most I did was leave them on our windowsill in the full sun – Go Australia sunlight for this… made them just slightly soft so they weren’t so brittle when cut, but not hot enough to warp them like if you leave them in the back of a hot car!

Great idea!

They are awesome! Some belong on the street
